Three people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, Turkish media report, according to Sky News.
According to Turkish TV stations NTV and CNN Türk, those killed were the attackers, who were shot by Turkish security forces, while the two injured are police officers.
The consulate is located in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul. It is not yet clear whether the consulate itself was the direct target of the attack.
The building has reportedly been closed for at least two years and is believed to have no staff inside. Sources told Reuters that there are currently no Israeli diplomats in Turkey – neither in Istanbul nor in Ankara.
Video footage shows a police officer drawing a weapon and taking cover as gunshots are heard, while one person is seen covered in blood.
The area is usually under heavy police protection, and additional armed forces were deployed after the incident. Turkey’s justice minister announced that an investigation has been launched.
