Ivan Rimac, a Croatian businessman and the father of Mate Rimac, has died at the age of 64, according to statements from his family. In a message shared with the media, the family confirmed that he passed away at his home in Samobor and asked for privacy during this difficult time.
Ivan Rimac played an important role in the early development of his son’s company, providing initial financial support that helped launch what would later become a globally recognized automotive technology business.
He was among the first serious investors in the project and contributed to the development of early prototypes. He also served for years as chairman of the supervisory board before later stepping down.
Business Background
Before becoming known to the wider public through his connection to the Rimac Group, Ivan Rimac built a career in construction and business.
After spending years working abroad, including in Germany, he returned to Croatia where he established his own company. Over time, his business activities expanded, and he became involved in several large-scale projects.
His business career was also marked by legal issues. In recent years, he was involved in a long-running court case related to business practices, which resulted in a conviction in 2024. The serving of his sentence was postponed due to health reasons.
Family and Personal Life
Ivan Rimac is survived by his wife and children, including Mate Rimac, one of the most prominent entrepreneurs in the European automotive industry.
Mate Rimac is widely known as the founder and CEO of the Rimac Group, a company that has grown into a major player in electric vehicle technology and high-performance automotive engineering.
