Judit Varga Denies Writing Memoir Targeting Peter Magyar as Fact-Checkers Debunk Viral Claims

In her public post, Judit Varga definitively rejected the claims that she wrote a memoir or biography in which she accuses Peter Magyar, and the non-existence of such a publication is also conformed by a fact check.

The biography with a title “Sixteen years with the monster” does not exist, claims former Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga, and at the same time she denies that she wrote a memoir in which she allegedly made serious and controversial accusations against her ex-husband and the future Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Magyar.

On her Facebook profile, she says that the posts on the social networks and in certain media are not true.

“By the way, the fake news on the Internet is not true; I have not written any biographical book,” wrote Varga in a comment on her Facebook profile, with which she directly denies the allegations about the existence of a book titled “Sixteen years with the monster”, which is believed to contain serious accusations against Magyar.

In addition to Varga’s personal confirmation, the fact-checkers from the American Lead Stories also confirmed that the information is false. They pointed out that the claims about the alleged biography first appeared in certain posts on the platform X, where users shared videos and texts about Varga’s alleged confessions.

The posts say that the memoirs were published at the end of March 2026, but according to the same fact-checkers, they were part of a coordinated spread of unverified information, with no evidence of the book’s existence.

The lie first went viral after several profiles spread it on the platform X (formerly Twitter), posting videos saying “Peter Magyar exposed”, as well as claims and even alleged quotes and photos form the non-existent book.

The same story was taken up by several portals, including the website “MagyarHirek24”, registered just before the publication of the text. This is a frequent indicator of disinformation campaigns and it is considered to be an argument for belittling Magyar in the rhetoric by many politicians and public figures, not only form Hungary’s surroundings, but also beyond.

The public, including the Macedonian one, could witnessed that the fake story was taken up by media and political actors from our country as well, especially after the elections, and that it was used to denounce the future Hungarian Prime Minister.

It is interesting that Polish media and the fact-checking services like Pollar and Konkret24 reported that the original story came from a pro-Russian portal.

The Czech organization for media development “Transitions online” reported that during the electoral campaign in Hungary, a large number of disinformation activities and coordinated campaigns with manipulative content about Peter Magyar were noticed on the social media. Some reports also mention the possibility of foreign influence, including Russian disinformation activities targeting the election process.

The controversial relationship between Varga and Magyar

The private life of the former Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga and the Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar became public after their divorce in March 2023, although they were previously considered as one of the most influential political couples in Hungary for more than a decade.

Varga and Magyar were married for sixteen years and have three children. When Varga was a Justice Minister in Orban’s government, Magyar did not express himself politicly in public.

Their divorce took place with not much attention from the media, but the situation changed dramatically in 2024 when Magyar began to criticize Orban’s government in public, and made allegations of political pressure and corruption.

The escalation happened after the release of a private audio recording by Magyar in April 2024, in their family home in January 2023, right before the divorce. In the recording, Varga revealed the alleged attempts by government officials to influence investigations about high-profile corruption cases.

Magyar said that he released the recording for the good of the public because it has been clear evidence of systematic corruption in the Orban’s regime.

After its release, Judit Varga confirmed that the conversation was authentic and resigned form her position, accusing her now ex-husband for secretly recording it.

The public conflict intensified even more after they began to present opposing versions of the reasons for their divorce. While for Varga it was a tense private relationship, serious martial conflicts and psychological pressure, for Magyar the divorce resulted from the political pressure and his disagreement with the ruling structures.

Due to Magyar’s new role in politics in Hungary, the relationship between the two of them and their private history is expected to continue in the public spotlight.
