How much does it cost to rent a cottage for May 1st?

If you want to go on a trip in nature for May 1st, that is, the Labor Day, and if you want to rent an entire cottage in one of the tourist destinations, this pleasure will cost you around 100 euros. The owners of cottages in Ohrid, Mavrovo and Kochani are asking for 100 euros per day for rent only. This refers to cottages that have capacity to accommodate up to 10 people. They explain that it is fine if guests decide to stay more than one night, but on the internet, there are advertisements saying that the facilities can be rent out for a minimum of two nights. People who rent out the cottages complain that it is difficult for them to find cleaners, so part of their earnings goes to maintaining hygiene and that is the reason why they go for that option, so that guests can stay for more days.

“There are no people for cleaning the facilities. We try to make the visits last a few days. Renting the entire cottage per day would cost around 100 euros, so a maximum of 10 people could be accommodated, including children. Macedonian tourists prefer to be in the center, to be on the 9th floor, and not in nature where they will have a gazebo and a nice view,” says a resident of Ohrid.

The owners of the cottages explain that they are often flexible and try to accommodate visitors as much as they can.

“So, one cottage can accommodate up to 10 people, and the price would be around 100 euros, or 10 euros per person. The cottage has a kitchen, bedrooms and two bathrooms. The interest in accommodation is greater for New Year’s Eve. Most cottages are priced at 100 to 120 euros for rent,” says a woman who owns a cottage in Mavrovo.

For renting a cottage on Popova Shapka, we were told that the price would be 80 euros, for a facility that can accommodate 6 or 7 people.

For renting a cottage with 8 beds in Berovo, the price is 80 euros. However, the owners insist that the stay be at least two nights. They also add that it has happened the people have rented the cottage for a week or two, which is convenient for those who work online.

If you want to rent a cottage with 4 beds in Pretor, you will have to pay 40 euros per day.

In ChucherSandevo in Skopje, a cottage that can accommodate up to 30 people can be rented for 150 euros per day.

To rent a cottage in Ajvatovci near Skopje, for May 1st, they are asking 200 euros per night, and the facility has a capacity for 5 people, but also it has a large yard.

Prices of the cottages depend on their size, location how they are arranged, and the like. As an advantage, some owners refer to the fact that some cottages are far from houses in populated areas and say that this offers greater comfort and privacy to their guests. Some of the people we contacted said that they plan to build a swimming pool in the yard of the cottage or to enrich the space with something new, which will allow them to earn more from renting out in the future.

However, there are also owners who have decided not to rent out their cottages for Labor Day, but to go there themselves and to have a barbecue. Some of them still rent out their cottages only for New Year’s Eve and for Christmas because the interest for renting is greater during that period of the year. By the way, according to the Law on Holidays, May 1st is a non-working day for all citizens.
